New Transmission  44                 April  2012

April 29th.

This week I've been doing a few things inside the car and it's a much needed break from underneath. I still need to finish up a couple of details on the underside but that can wait for now.

What you see here is my throttle pedal that doesn't line up with my cable anymore. The reason for that is because awhile back I swapped sides with the upper and lower throttle pedal assembly so I could gain some much needed clearance between my brake and throttle pedals. This swap gave me about 1 1/4" more clearance but now the top of the pedal doesn't lineup with the cable anymore.

I stuck a 10-32 (3/16 diameter) bolt between the two which gave me an idea of what I needed to do and to be honest I could have used this bolt with a nut on the end and called it done but I wanted something a little cleaner.

Here is what I came up with to replace the bolt. The pin is made out of stainless steel which is 3/16" diameter and has a groove at the end for a C clip. The C clip was used from the original hardware that came with the pedal assembly. The piece on top is going to be a spacer that goes between the pedal and clevis that my cable runs through. The spacer is made out of aluminum and slips over the pin.

While I was looking at my throttle cable I noticed that it had some wear so I bought a replacement.

As you can see I'll need to cut the new cable so it matches my old one because it's just a little oversize.

Here is what the new pin and spacer look like along with the C clip holding it together. Once I get the car on the road I'll know more but I think it should work fine.

I had my throttle return spring hooked to my TPS when it was on the car but that piece of electronics is in a box ready to be sold. I needed somewhere to attach the rear of the spring to so I made this piece to do that. It's made out of aluminum and the two threaded holes are to hold it in place and the other three holes are for spring adjustment. This will mount under the throttle cable bracket right where the TPS bracket was located using the same holes.

This is my throttle stop that is very faded now. If you look close you can just see some purple anodize that looked much better a few years ago. The bracket that it's attached to uses one of the two bolts that go into the return spring bracket. What I plan to do is replace the worn purple piece with another one that I found that I didn't use. That's the good news but the bad news is that the other one is to short. But I have a plan for that.
