After removing the shifter I covered the opening with some tape to
keep it clean inside. The shifter can be mounted in four different
locations depending on your application needs but I'll go into that a
little later.

After I marked some layout lines, here is the first hole
that I cut which was for the shifter. My plan is to install the shifter
from the top once the transmission is installed because there's no way
it will go into the car with it still on the trans. This should be
pretty easy to do from inside the car because the six bolts go in from
the
top. As you can see by the layout lines I think I'll need to cut a lot
more. And as you can tell most of the cutting will have to be from under
the car. This makes for a shower of fiberglass dust so wearing a
protective mask is my best friend while doing this.

I put a short blade on my reciprocating saw which worked pretty good but
with the floor being 3/4" thick it takes awhile to cut through. That
weird looking thing to the left is a work light which has many LED's for
lots of good light. It's also cordless and rechargeable. The clamshell
design holds it's position no mater where you put it and it has a few
super strong magnets on both sides if you want to use it that way. I got
it for Christmas and it works really well.

To make sure I didn't cut through my carpet I used pieces of wood to
make some clearance. Kinda looks like I'm doing some sugary and this is
my rib spreader. The round metal piece to the right is just another item
to keep the carpet out of the way. If you look close you can see a small
hole next to the round piece which was one of two mounting holes for my
old automatic shifter. That took me back when I was building the car and
started to reminisce.

This shot was taken before I did any work on the trans swap. Here you
can see the two bolts that held my shifter in place. When I started
taking the car apart it sure did take me back to when I first put it all
together (just like you were saying Collin).
I'm getting close to having the transmission installed but now I need
to get my throw-out bearing sorted out before I can bolt it up.
