I've been wondering how I'm going to get that big
transmission out of my car without killing myself and one way is to use
my floor jack like I talked about before. The round white piece is what
came with my jack which is upside-down so you can see the bottom. The
post sticking out goes into the jack so it won't come out and so it can
swivel. What I came up with is a large plate that will go under the
transmission pan to support it instead of a piece of wood. The plate is
14" long X 7" wide X 3/16" thick. I also welded a post on it the same
size as the original one has so it should stay put.

Here it is on my jack and it seems like it should work
just fine. But to be safe and make sure the trans doesn't fall off, I'll
place a strap over it and around the plate for insurance.

I used the tallest jack-stands that I had along with my ramps. I tried
using my second tallest jack-stands in the rear but I gained a few
inches by using my ramps instead. After measuring
the trans along with the height of the car as you see it now, it's going
to be close.

Take a good look because this should be the last time you see an
automatic transmission under my car. Speaking of looking, I don't see
this view very often and I noticed some paint missing from the
cross-member. This must have happened by using my floor jack a time or
two over the years. There's not much I can do about now so I'll have to
live with it.

Time to start getting things removed in order to drop the transmission.
First up was to remove the entire exhaust system along with the
driveshaft. After all those pipes were out of the way, I was able to
remove the cooling lines that run from the trans to the radiator. Also
notice how weird the paint looks on that pan. I don't know what made the
paint go so crazy here but it happened on the oil pan too.

Here you can see the engine block has the same weird paint problem as
the oil pan has. I noticed this happening ever so slowly over the years
but don't know why other than heat causing it. Those custom made purple
anodized clamps will be getting sold along with the transmission.
