Now that we have the rods assembled,
it's time to put some pistons rings on but there's one more thing to do
before the rings go on.
|
|
The piston rings that I bought need to
be fitted to each individual cylinder before they can be installed on
the pistons. They call this a "file-fit ring". Depending on
what application your running, the end gaps will be different. Mine are
going to be gapped at a minimum of .0165" so my target size is
.018".
|
|
Now when fitting the rings in the
cylinder bores, you have to make sure that they are square with the bore
or your not going to get an accurate reading. To make sure the ring is
square, I made a tool that is .005" smaller than the bore and is
about a 1/2" long.
|
|
All you have to do is get the ring
started and then push it down till it comes in contact with the shoulder
of the tool and this squares it with almost no effort. Remove the tool
and check the gap.
