After taking out everything except the wiring in the
trunk, I can get started making a firewall. There are some vertical
corrugated pieces bonded to the bulkhead for added strength about eight
inches apart all the way across the trunk area. I'm going to use those
vertical pieces to secure the firewall to using screws. The corrugated
pieces are 5/8 deep so screwing into them will be no problem because the
screws won't exit to the other side where the interior pieces
attach.

The first thing I did was make a cardboard template. I
wanted to make this firewall in one piece but after I started making the
template, I couldn't get the cardboard to bend around and into all the
nooks and crannies so I made it in two pieces. If you notice, it's split
down the middle so this is how the aluminum is going to be cut. Also
notice the cut-outs around the trunk hinges. In order to get this
template to fit in, I had to bend it from top to bottom and then slide
it in because of how the trunk is shaped. The same will have to be done
when the aluminum is cut but shouldn't be a problem because it's thin.

Here is a 3 X 4 foot piece of .032" thick aluminum
that I'm going to use. The cardboard piece that you see is for the passenger side. I traced around this piece with a
red felt-marker and now I'm ready to start cutting. It's hard to see but
there really are lines on there.

After cutting them both out, I made sure
they would
fit and then deburred them all the way around. The red vertical lines
are in-line with the
corrugated pieces so I can drill some holes to
fasten it down.
