This is a section of the floor that
got cut out while doing the repair. Notice how thick the bottom section
is. The whole floor is made like this and is 3/4" thick. The part
that is at an angle is the section between the trunk (left side) and
interior (right side). There is 1/4" steel where all the mounting
bolts go and next to that is a lighter piece that is a wood product. The
wood is uses for two things. The first is strength and second as an
insulator (which is for sound and heat). Because of this type of construction,
the car is incredibly strong and very well built.

Here is an after shot of the underside
of the car. Notice how it fits better now that it's fixed (no more gap
like before). This is how it should look. All I have to do when I turn
the car over is glass the small section that you see that has a gap in
it along with the underside of the wheel-wells.

It's been awhile since I've done any work on the
body so I started working on the trunk. On day the whole inside of the
trunk will be upholstered but I have to start somewhere. It's hard to
tell in this picture but the part of the floor that is farthest away
from me is going down hill. The difference is 6 3/4" from front to
back. I will have to shim-up the one side to make the floor close to
level. The reason for "close to level" is that I want the part
next to the bulkhead (the wall between the trunk and passenger
compartment) to be a little lower because the gas tank will be mounted
back here. The tank will have the fuel lines next to the bulkhead so the
fuel will gravity feed to the fuel line better.

Here is the shim that I will be using.
This started out as a 2" X 8" and it now has an angle cut on
top to match the floor. The angled side will go against the floor and
the other end will have a sheet of plywood screwed to it.
