One gage that I thought would be a big
help was a transmission temp gage. This gage is setup like the water
temp gage in that it has a line running down to the probe on the end
which has to be submerged in fluid. The only way to do that is to drill
a hole in the transmission pan and stick the end in it but I needed an adapter to be
able to do that. What you see below is my new adapter that I made out of
steel. Notice the step on the outside which is the same thickness as the
transmission pan. This way I can make a 3/4" hole which is the same
as the smaller step in my adapter, and that will keep it centered while
I weld it in place. The red piece, which came with my gage, is made out
of aluminum and will screw into the adapter. Then the end of the probe
will screw into the end of the red piece.

The first thing that needed to be done
was drain the fluid from the pan. Notice the line and probe on the end
of it. This is what screws into the end of the red adapter.

After finding a good place for my gage
to be located, I drilled a 1/2" diameter hole and then enlarged it
to 3/4" with my Dremel (I didn't have a 3/4" drill). Here you
see the adapter welded in and tested to make sure it didn't leak. It's
ready to be bolted back on the transmission.

Here you can see everything fastened
down and the line routed out of the way of my exhaust. I'm now ready to
fill the transmission with fluid and finish up the dash.
