This is the hood prop installed on the
drivers side. The left side of the prop is fixed and swivels and the right side has
a quick release joint that hooks to a ball that is mounted on the hood.
When it's not in use, it's held in place in the plastic clamp like you
see below.

Here is the ball that the quick
release attaches too. The ball screws into an aluminum block which gets
fastened to the underside of the hood. I could have mounted the ball
several inches in either direction as long as the rod can reach it. I
chose this location because it offered the max opening of the hood.

This should give you a better idea of
what I was working towards all this time. After opening and closing the
hood from both sides a few times, the new hinges work great. Another nice thing
about these hinges are that they won't scratch the paint when you
"open" the hood like some other brands can. There are a lot
of hours invested at this point but it was worth it. Now it's
time to install the cables and latches that mount on the inside of the
car. I hope there is enough room behind the rear mounting block for all
the moving parts.
