Here you can see that I've bolted in
the two lower hinge mount blocks and it has been lined-up with the string.
The blocks have a small step in them and the top of the step has to be
right at the string line but the outside of the block has to be inward
by 1/8". Getting this in place sounds easy but it took hours to get
just right.

Now that the rails are in place, it's
time to make some cut-outs in the bottom of the hood so the upper hinges
can be installed. The first thing that has to be done is to insert the
top hinge into the bottom hinge mounting blocks and then scribe a line
from the step that's in the top blocks to the bottom blocks. I also labeled the
blocks so I didn't get the drivers side mixed up with the passenger
side.

Now you can see the scribed lines on the
bottom mounting block which has to be transferred to the bottom side of the
hood. What you do first is use a straight edge to get the lines to the
side of the hood, then you take the hood off and transfer those lines to
the bottom side with a square. Before you remove the hood you also need to make one
more mark along the bottom side of the hood along the side of the mounting block.

|
Once you have the lines transferred to
the bottom side of the hood, you have to measure inward 3/64" from
the edge line that I made last and make another line. At this point, I
now have the area that will be cut away making clearance for the upper
mounting blocks. I know it sounds bad, but once you get going it makes
since.
