Now it's time to fit the hood sides. I needed to cut away a small section of the hood to clear the bottom mounting blocks like I did for the hood top. The hood sides have a 1" lip that is bent 90 degrees to the hood side. This lip will gets mounted to the rails with three screws. I laid out the area to be cut away and got busy.

After cutting the notches out, I drilled and tapped some 8-32 threads into the rails. Then I drilled some clearance holes in the lip and bolted them up. Hagan suggests using some flathead screws but I used button head cap screws, one on each end and one in the middle. Now I have to secure the bottom of the hood sides.

What I'm going to use to keep the bottom of the hood sides from flapping in the wind are these. I cut-up some 1/4" bolts and welded them to a small piece of steel which then gets welded to the hood sides. The thread lengths are 1" long and I'll use washers and lock-nuts to keep them fastened.

I first drilled a hole at the front part of the inner-fender for the threaded piece to go through. To find the location for the new pieces, I placed a piece of tape doubled-over so I had two sticky sides. Then I placed the threaded piece through the hole and pressed the hood side against the face of the square piece which then stuck and gave me my location for welding. I then used a pencil to draw around the square, removed the tape and tacked it in place.

After checking to make sure that it fit, I welded it all the way around and then ground the edges smooth.

To hold the bottom-rear of the hood, I made some small aluminum blocks with a 5/16 diameter hole in them. There held down with two 10-32 stainless button head cap screws which then thread into Riv-nuts. I would have just drilled a hole in the side here but things were tight so this was the perfect place for the Riv-nts because you can't get your hand under this section as it's enclosed all the way around. The lining up, welding and smoothing of the welds were done the same way as the front ones.
