33 Coupe Engine Install 5
8/23/03
I was able to use a ratchet for the
first side but as I added rockers, things got harder and harder with every
one. So I had to use a breaker bar to rotate the engine around for the
other side. These springs are STRONG!!

This part from
Billet
Specialties is for blocking off the place where the mechanical fuel
pump would go. I'll be using an electric fuel pump so I'll need to block
off the original spot with this piece. This is made out of Aluminum and
comes with fasteners but no gasket. Now what's up with that!! You would
think that they would include something as small as a gasket but I guess
not. Good thing I had one already.

This is the spot the cover will be
going on. All that needs to be done here is to use a little black RTV sealant
on the metal surface, stick the gasket on and then a little more
sealant.

Then install the cover plate and
tighten the four screws down. It looks nice on there don't cha think? If
you notice, I also installed two screws next to the plate on the front
of the engine. The top bolt has to have something in there or oil will
come out. This is because this hole is used when you install a mechanical
fuel pump which has a push-rod that rides on the cam. By screwing in a
bolt up against the push-rod, this would hold the rod without
it sliding down out of place. To give you an idea of how this works, the push-rod
would move back and forth
with the one end on the cam and the other end against the lever on the fuel pump.
This motion would move the lever on the pump making the pump work. Now this push-rod has to have oil because it moves
and with the hole going through, the hole has to be plugged or I would
end up with a leak. Just a little lesson on how a mechanical fuel pump
works.
