33 Coupe Having Fun 10        5/28/06

Car show season is in full swing right now and there is either a "show" or "shows" every weekend around here. I attended two shows in the last two weeks and had a great time at both.

The first show on Saturday, May 20 was at Bob's Big Boy in Calimesa and about 50 cars were there. I took pictures while at the show but because the setting was the same, I'm not going to be putting any pictures on here. Gary and I both took home a runner-up trophy which was cool but the judging was being done by a guy that doesn't get along with the Shifters Car Club so needless to say, we didn't fare very well.

The last show I attended was on Saturday, May 27 and was held in Beaumont Ca; a neighboring town and only a couple of miles away. The show was called The Cherry Fest Classic Car Show. The "Cherry Fest" is the start of a week long event leading up to the annual Cherry Festival but I didn't know if the car show would attract very many cars because of the weather we had that day. This time of year around So.Ca. has what is called "June Gloom"  (even though it's at the end of May) which means there are low clouds and heavy fog in the morning hours and usually burns off by the afternoon. This wasn't the case this time as the clouds were out almost all day and the temperature was in the low 60's with the wind blowing. Two days before this the temps were in the 90's and you could here the sound of AC units running on most houses. As I'm writing this the day after the event, the sun is out and it's a typical late spring day that will be in the mid 80's. You just never know what kind of weather your going to have around this area at this time of year.

The setting was in a nice park that had a few trees (we didn't need them for shade that day) with over 80 cars in attendance which was much more that I ever expected. There were some very nice cars at this event and I parked next to Gary and Debbie and Larry. If you entered your car, you received a T-shirt and a meal ticket for lunch which was a choice of a hot dog or a burger. You also had a choice of chips and drink with your lunch so you didn't go hungry. There was also some live music being played and the band was pretty good. Once our cars were entered and our raffle tickets were bought, it was time to look at all the cars.

There was a good variety of cars there and I liked this one. Leather interior, rumble seat and a small block Chevy with some old school fuel injection.

There were a lot of flags flying because of the Memorial Day weekend and to show some of them off were these nice cars.

This car was one of the nicest cars at the show. It had leather interior, a detailed trunk, flawless paint and small block Chevy making the power.

There's something about old Ford pickups that look cool and there were a bunch of them all looking good.
