33 Coupe Paint 17        5/29/05

Here is what it looks like with the front group back on. I had to tweak a few things so everything would lineup again but that wasn't to hard. Those Dzus fasteners sure do make it easy to remove the hood sides. Dzus fasteners have a slot like a slotted screw but instead of the slot being the same depth all the way across, the slot has a radius to it. The radius is deepest at the middle of the fastener and tangents out at the top. A normal screwdriver doesn't fit in it correctly so I took a small handled one out of my tool box and sanded a radius on the end to match the Dzus fastener. This way my new tool (sanded screwdriver tip) fits it great and doesn't want to slip out like one that doesn't have a radius on it. The last thing I need is to put a nice big scratch in my new paint.

One thing I should have done was paint or plate the spring plates that the Dzus fasteners fasten too. I forgot all about them till it was time to install them and now I have something that will end up rusting. Once the graphics are on and all the paint has been buffed out, I'm going to remove the plates and have them chromed. You never know, I might find a few more things that will end up being plated so this might work out for the best.

This is a shot of my hood supports. I painted them purple but you really can't see them very well in this picture. I thought about chroming them but changed my mind at the last moment. Notice the reflection from my air filter top on the bottom of the hood. Sweet!

One other item that Bart painted was my rollcage. I plan on covering it with leather once it's in the car but to protect it from the elements, this should do the trick. To bad I'll be hiding most of it because it came out real nice.

This is my dash extender that I modified slightly. I cut out the section that goes around the steering column support a little more than I had previously because I thought it would look better. It's weaker now that's for sure but I'm going to be adding a bolt on either side of the new cut out.

This week the car will be going back over to Bart's so the graphics guy, Robbie, can get started on it. Once he's finished, Bart and I can install the rest of the panels, buff it all out and then bring it home for the last time.
