May is a busy month for car shows around here because each weekend there
are many to choose from and the one I went to this time was the
20th Annual Optimist Car Show
and Chili Cook Off on May 21st. This show is held at beautiful Sylvan
Park in Redlands, Ca. The gates opened at 7 am but most people arrive
way before that which puts you in one of two long lines to wait in. We
were there by 6:30 and once the gates opened, we got the spot we wanted
and setup camp.
One nice thing about this show is that you park on the grass which
makes for a really nice setting. Usually there are over 400 cars that
show up but for some reason that didn't happen as they had closer to 325
this year. The weather was perfect with temps topping out in the mid
80's with partly cloudy skies in the morning. There were lots of
vendors, plenty of food to choose from and all the proceeds go to a
youth organization. Along with your entry you receive a goodie bag, a
dash plaque and a T-shirt.
The chili cook off is held in a beer garden which a lot of people
were hanging out in after they started serving the food. Now this show
use to be held in late July which put the thought of eating hot chili
out of the question for most people on a hot day with temps well over
100 degrees. But after enough people bitched about it, they moved the
show date to late May which made everyone very happy.
I took a lot of pictures again (what else is new) so sit back and
check out over a hundred shots of some cool rides.
