Working With Sheet Steel Continued
Putting in this hole pattern is similar to the platform dowel pin holes
I did earlier, in that I used X and Y coordinates for both hole
locations. The starting point for these bands are in the center (left to
right) and center (front to back). Once I had that, it's just making
sure the number on my digital readout is correct according to my cheat
sheet.

The hole patterns are slightly different for each band
at the ends. I knew about this beforehand and thought I'd put the ends around the
back where they won't show as much.
I'm going to use brass screws to hold the bands on,
mainly for a nice contrast which should look pretty good. These are
pretty small and I hope none of them break while I working with them
because they're made out of soft material.
The bands need to be bent so they are somewhat round
before they go on the base. But before I
do that I'm needing to work on the base one more time before I remove
my three jaw chuck so let's go back to work on the lathe again.

Working With Wood Again I'm getting ready to machine the
bottom of the base because I'm going to make a small removable plate that will be three
inches in diameter.
Here I'm machining the three inch diameter, but I'm not
able to machine the center because of the way I'm holding it. No problem
as I'll machine the reminder on the mill.

This is an easy process removing the center, as long as I don't touch
the three inch diameter.
I used some scrap to make this piece that will become a door.
I made the door slightly smaller in diameter and thickness to make it
easier to remove.
The only reason I'm making this piece is to hid the wires that will be
inside the base. I didn't want the wires to slip down and get under the
base in anyway.
The door is just under the surface so the base will sit flat.
Here I'm drilling some pilot holes for two screws to hold the door on.

The holes in the door have clearance for the #6 screws. Now that the door
is finished, I'm ready to start bending the metal bands.
