I split the difference between the the
outer lines and cut off about a half inch from both pieces.

After cutting, I chamfered them (weld
prep) so I could weld them back together. Before I started welding, I
placed the two pieces back in the hood, clamped them in place and tacked
it. Then I removed the brace and fully welded it all the way around.

After sanding the weld off the brace,
I drilled some holes and mounted it to see how things fit. Here you can
see how the braces don't come in contact with the hood except where
they're mounted. I cut the flanges on the long ones the same way as the
short ones because there was hood prop hardware that was in the
way.

This is what it looks like finished
and what a difference they made. My hood is much more ridged now than it
was before and they don't look to bad either. Once these braces are
covered with paint, you'll never know they were cut.
