It's Finished
I'm pretty happy with how this turned out but let me explain
the meaning behind it. Audrey is growing up in a house that has cats.
Audrey's mom, Angela, has been around cats ever since birth (along with
her sister Tracey). This will be the same for Audrey as well because
they have three cats living in their house today. With that being said, I figure she
will like cats well into the future which explains the 'cat figure'.
And once Audrey grows up a little more, she can use the empty box for
whatever she wants. For instance...maybe some type of... 'Treasures'.

This box is lighter than you might expect, which is what I wanted from
the start. This should make it easier for my granddaughter to carry.
The Zar oil based semi-gloss finish should last a long time, keeping the wood looking
good for years to come.

A close-up of the ledge for the top to sit on. And you can see the end
grain of the bottom too.
That knot in the bottom has one spot that you can see through. I knew it
was there while building this and thought it was cool so I left it.
Here is the top.
Another knot but this one doesn't go
through.
I made 18 different sizes of blocks.
I used mineral oil on them, which really brings out the grain.
The cardboard spacers are just temporary so everything stays together
for
Christmas day. And so everything looks nice. After that Audrey can throw
the cardboard out and do what she wants with the blocks.
There are 144 blocks total.
I hope Audrey likes her present as much as I had making it. Merry
Christmas little one!!
