My daughter, Tracey, and I were talking and I let her
know I
was between projects. Now this conversation took place near Christmas
of 2020 and she said she had a project for me. Tracey is into Yoga these days and she
wanted a rack to hold her Yoga mat.
One thing lead to another and she sent me some pictures,
did some talking and we came up with a plan. This Yoga mat rack will
hold three mats, and will be 26" tall X 12 1/2" wide. The wood for it will
be maple and black walnut and there will be some stainless steel
involved as well.
Working With Wood

I'll need to glue the maple to the black
walnut so I'm skimming the sides with my table saw to make sure I
have some nice smooth edges to work with. In other words, I'm jointing
the edges here.
The same thing here with the black walnut but I'll need to cut away that
step too.
The black walnut was thicker than the maple so I ran it through my
thickness planer first. This only took a minute or two.
I used my biscuit joiner to cut some slots for #20 biscuits.
Then I used my Bessey parallel clamps to hold things together over
night. Side Note: this type of clamp is far superior to just about any
other clamps out there. Do yourself a favor and buy some if you don't
already own any.
The next day I ran the assembly through my thickness planer just to
clean it up.
I cut each end using my cross-cut sled on my table saw. This makes quick
work of it and now it's nice and square.
I used a 3/16" roundover bit on all the front edges. However, I didn't
do the back.
