33 Coupe Having Fun 1       1/18/09

Happy New Years to everyone.

It's a brand new year with a bunch of new and cool car shows to attend. And with the nice weather we've been having here in southern California (I know...when don' t we have good weather), why not get out there and enjoy a few shows.

The one thing that prevents us from going to even more shows this time of year isn't the cold, or even the rain...it's the wind. Starting in Autumn, the Santa Ana winds kick into high gear around here and usually end in late Winter or the beginning of Spring. With wind gusts reaching 60 miles per hour and more, there's no way I'm taking my ride out in the blowing dust and sand that accompany those days. The one by-product of these types of winds is that they make for very warm conditions as a result. So if you don't live in California and you've been seeing record temps here, this is why.

One of the weird things that happens during these windy times is that you really don't know where it will be blowing. What I mean is, if it's a really windy day here, it may not be 20 miles away which was the case a week ago on Jan. 10th. over at Sunnymead Hamburgers in Moreno Valley. Turns out they had a record crowd but we didn't go because of the wind we had here. Go figure!!

On Saturday, Jan. 17th, Hoggs Gourmet Grill in Moreno Valley had their monthly car show which runs from 4 to 7 pm. (winter hours) and again it was windy before we left town, but it wasn't too bad. Once we arrived and parked, low and behold it wasn't windy at all. But a few miles down the road might not be the case.

This was the first time I've ever been to this show but Larry has been here a few times. He also told me that the food was pretty good too (you know me, always after the food at the shows). This show has music by Sounds Divine which plays 50's, 60's and 70's tunes along with a raffle and 50/50 drawing. If you're car is in the show, you also get a discount on the food.

We arrived about 30 minutes early (which is normal for us) and there was quit a few cars their already. And before long, they had over 50 cars that showed up. Some of the pictures didn't come very well because as the sun went down, I was forced to take a few shots in very little light. With that all said, lets take a look at some of the cars that night.

I ended parking two spots away from the owner of this 56 Chevy and while I was backing into my spot, he shouted something to me at the top of his lungs. My first thought was "oh damn, I'm about to hit something" so I hit the brakes. Turns out all he was telling me was that it had been awhile since he'd seen me (because it's been about two months since I've had the car out) but it scared me for a minute there and got my heart going too.

There were a few El Camino's their that night which was pretty cool to see.
