This is the bottom of the weather station and the temperature sensor and
aspirating fan are behind this screen.
Here you can see the aspirating fan, which is what moves air across the temp sensor
eliminating something called 'stagnate air'. Stagnate air is just what
it sounds like, air that isn't moving, which causes incorrect
temperature readings.
Example: have you ever been in your car and right before you start
driving you notice the temp outside? But once you're moving, the
temperature starts to fall. This is because of stagnate air.
After 10 years this fan has stopped working so it will be replaced,
along with the two batteries right next to it.

I cleaned up all these pieces in the kitchen sink, which worked pretty
good. However, all of these parts are very brittle now.
I marked each piece to make sure it went back together correctly after
everything was clean.
These four tabs hold the screen in place, but the manual didn't say
anything about it. I know how it works now but I was being very careful
working it off so I didn't break anything.
Here you can see one of the two rechargeable batteries that sit inside a water proof housing. The fan sits in the middle
and plugs into that circuit board.
With the old aspirating fan removed, it's time to install this new one
along with some new rechargeable batteries.
I wrote the date on the new battery for future reference.

This is the rain gage and it works like a teeter-totter. When one cup fills, it dumps and then the other side fills and repeats.
There is a magnetic sensor at the bottom-center that keeps track of how
many times it moves and how often. This calculates rain amount and rain
rate.
Davis makes a new style rain gage that I'll be using in
place of this older one. They claim the new one is more precise when it
comes to rain rate as the older style can loose rain due to splashing.
This sounds all well and good, but it really doesn't rain that much
around here. However, after looking at mine, I ordered a new one.
