Valvetrain Display                                           06-2019

I was digging around in my cabinets the other day and found some of my old car parts. I have all kinds of different parts from building and working on cars over the years and then it hit me, what could I make from some of this stuff? The parts that you see below are mostly from my 33 Ford Coupe that I built, but after selling it in 2016 all those leftover parts just sit in boxes anymore.

What I want to make is a small "Valvetrain Display" that will sit on a dresser or shelf to bring back some fond memories of all the good times I had working on the engine. This project was quick and will only be one page long so lets see what I came up with for my display project.

Making A Stand

I'll need a base to mount things to so I'll be using a 3 1/2" diameter piece of 1/4" thick aluminum for this part. The 5/16" diameter hole is for a flat head cap screw.

I'm using some 1 1/4" diameter aluminum that will be mounted to the base. The rocker stud will be on top and the other end has 5/16-18 threads that mounts to the base.

I tapped this upright piece for 7/16-14 threads which is for the rocker stud.

This part fastens to the upright piece and will hold the valve in place. The hole for the valve is at a 10 degree angle and is 11/32" diameter.

This small pocket is .100" deep by 5/16" diameter. This will be for the pushrod to sit in.

I cut the pushrod to the correct length with my Dremel and a cutoff wheel.

It's Finished

There we go, a nice little display of my old valvetrain components.

This valve spring retainer was not part of my 33 Ford but from an earlier engine that I built years ago.

This was a fun and easy project to make. And now I can reminisce anytime I'd like when I look at it.
