Machining Continued
I did the same for some of the other pieces which worked pretty good.
These pieces will be used for the bottom and top of the box.
I'm machining all the edges of the pieces
that will be glued together.
Not to much to clamp on when your work piece is only 1/2 square.
I'll be putting four 1/4" dowels in each of the longer pieces and three
in the shorter ones.
I drilled and reamed through the black walnut which made it easier than
using a short dowel on each side.
Gluing Now comes the stressful part, gluing everything
together. If you make a mistake here, it's pretty much game over. But
taking your time and not getting in a hurry is always the key to making
things the right way. However, when your using glue, that really doesn't
ring true because time is really against you here. This will be the top
or lid.
Here is what I had after two days of clamping and gluing.
Sanding
I put some pencil lines on the surface and once they were gone, the
sanding was complete.

More Machining
Next I started drilling and reaming 1/4" dowel holes. This is for the
top (short side). The longer pieces have four dowels.
I'm cutting both top and bottom here so they end up exactly the same
size.
