I finished this project in 2017 but completely forgot about posting it
back then (notice the date above), but I'm doing that now. However, I'm
not sure I'll remember all the details so bear with me.
Working With Steel
I'm making some presents for two family members, my grandson Aidan,
and my daughter Tracey. But this time I'm using steel for my material. This
is cold rolled steel and my pieces are five inches square by 3/16"
thick. I milled both sides just to clean off the scale first (black
stuff).

Here I'm center drilling a series of holes but they
won't all be the same size when I'm finished.
Here is what I have so far. The center hole is 1/2"
and the outer holes are 5/8" diameter. I also gave each hole a small
chamfer on both sides.
If you look close, you can see a small dimple near
each arrow. Those will be used later.
Here is a close-up of one dimple. To produce each
dimple I used a small center drill.
I made some tooling out of aluminum to locate my 5/8"
holes with. This is so I can index my work piece exactly where I want it.
Here is where the dimples come in, I'm using them to
accurately produce
some layout lines.
I used my hacksaw to cut near the lines, roughing off
the excess material.
Here is what they look like after many sawcuts.
I made some 5/8" pins to locate my work pieces. In this configuration I'm cutting on the backside of all six
arrows first.
