Modification Time Continued
I have the serving tray clamped to an angle plate and
the angle plate is clamped to my table. I used a 3/4" diameter, 2 flute
high speed steel end mill for the slots. Once the first slot was
finished, I rotated my work piece, found the center line, clamped it in
place and cut the other slot.

I applied a coat of mineral oil first and the
next day I put on a coat of wood wax. Now the wax is too hard to apply
right out of the can so I put a little in a separate cup, set it outside
for about 10 to 15 minutes in the summer heat and then it's ready to go.

It's Finished
Here is the serving tray all finished. The species of wood are maple,
alder, sapele and black walnut.
The slots are 3 1/2" long X 3/4" tall.
A nice small 1/8" radius on the top surface.
It's hard to see my brand on that darker wood.
A few days later I sent it to my daughter and she loved it and it
worked great.
And it looks like her cat loved it as well.
