Figurines  1                                                8-2025

This is the fourth project for Open Door Escape Games and again will be for their scary game. What you see below is a window that has fogged panes which is to hid something on the backside. However, the items will only be revealed once lightening strikes. What I'm talking about is that Open Door has a device that mimics the sound and sight of actual lightening, which will show the way during the game.

What I'm going to make is a board that has all those rectangles on it so, (similar to what a chess board has). But this board, or game board (if you will) will only have 12 rectangles, just like the window below. And under this board will be some sensors which will activate once the correct figurine are in the right spot.

Here are the figurines that I was given, which are very random. Now it's time to make something that I can fasten them to.

Working With Wood

I'm going to make a wooden base for each figurine, which will have felt on the bottom of each one so they slide on the game board nice and easy. And each base will have a magnet inside to activate a reed switch inside the game board. Each base will have two pieces, with the top piece being 5/8" thick and the bottom being only 3/16" thick.

The wood I'm using is pine and here I'm using my thickness plane to reduce the size of the pieces.

I'm cutting the thinner pieces slightly oversize below. Later I'll bring them to size on my table saw.

Here are my pieces so far, but I only need nine bases when I'm finished.

Here I'm cutting these thicker pieces slightly oversize, but I'll cut them all again once both top and bottom pieces are fastened together.

I'm going to use two screws and two dowels on each base. This way they will go back together exactly as I work with each one.

I'm using #6 flat head screws to hold the bottom to the top piece.

Here are the wood dowels for this project. I'm going to cut each one in half, which will make them the perfect length for each base.

After cutting them, I used my belt sander to chamfer the ruff cut edges.
