This is the column support that bolts
through the firewall and holds the bottom of the column in place. I made
the spacer on the left because of the way the support swivels. Notice the
position of the swivel as it now. This inside area is sticking out by
1/2" so as you might have guessed, the spacer is the same
thickness. I could have removed material on the firewall to make up for
this but being the firewall is only 1/2" thick, I might brake
through. This way I wouldn't have that problem and it will be covered
with carpet later so there's no need to polish it.

In this shot you can see how it's
going to work a little better. The holes in the support are tapped about
a 5/16" deep because otherwise they would exit the other side.

I installed the column with both the
support and spacer and then marked around the spacer to get the pattern
you see below. Then I removed the column and placed just the spacer
inside the red circle to transfer the hole pattern to the tape. This is
where the holes will be drilled for the bolts that hold the support in
place.

After some drilling and fitting (a
little Dremel work with a carbide bit), the column support and spacer
are in place. The screws that came with the support were to short so
I'll be picking up some nice polished button head cap screws made out of
stainless. Lets take a look at the brake line that had to be moved.
