Glock 23 Continued
A couple of hits with a small hammer and punch and it's out.
The new sight is held in with a screw,
which is a much more secure solution.
I used a drop of blue Loctite to make sure things stay in place. This
whole process only takes a few minutes and is very easy.
The rear sight is a little harder but my new removal tool made quick
work of things. Here I'm making sure the new sight is centered by
hitting it softly from one side. And to remove the old one it looks just
like this, but you just drive it out the other side.
There we go, it's installed.
These Glock night sights have a small Tritium element
which glows green in low light conditions with white contrasting dots.
This means they will be illuminated without the sight needing to be
exposed to a light source first. That's the good news, the bad news:
Tritium is radioactive and has a half-life of about 12.5 years, which
means that half of the radioactive atoms will decay naturally in that
time.
This should give you a better idea of what the sights
look like in low light conditions. Yes I know the picture is out of
focus (no tripod) but at least you can see what color they are and what to expect if
you were to buy some.
Come to find out, Tritium emits beta radiation, which
does not penetrate the dead outer layer of the skin. That means Tritium
only poses a health risk if inhaled, ingested, or absorbed into the body
through the skin in large quantities. In other words, I think I'm good.

Installing an Accessory Rail on a Glock 23
This is the rail for Gen 1 and 2 Glock's. I have no idea if this is
going to work or not so stick with me to find out.
Here is what comes in the package, two plastic pieces that make up each
half of the rail along with some hardware.
After playing with it for a few minutes and deburring
some of the excess plastic, it's installed. So far the slide moves easy
and the rail feels very solid. And as you can see, it forms around the trigger
guard to help keep it located properly.
