I've owned this belt sander for years and it works great. However, one
thing I've never liked about it is the size of the table to rest your
work on. This small 3" X 3" area is just too small for some of the
things I've worked on before so I plan on making a larger one that will
solve two problems.

Here you can see the small area that I'm talking about.
At just 9 square inches, it's not nearly enough to place larger work
pieces on because there isn't enough surface area to properly locate
them. This is about to change because I'm going to make this much
larger.
The existing table is held on with just one bolt,
which means I'll need to make a new bracket.
The second thing I'll be addressing is the on/off switch clearance
problem. Notice how the table is lower than the switch is. When I'm
working on larger pieces, the switch can get in my way so this will be
changed as well.
I took a few dimensions from my old one and will make
some much needed changes for the new one.
I made a new table that is 6" X 7" X 3/16" thick. And I made a new
bracket to bolt it on with. This new bracket will locate the table
higher so future project won't come in contact with the power switch.
The next step is to weld the bracket to the table, which I'm laying out
here.
Here is the new table and it works great. The areas that are lighter in
color have been sanded to make the table nice and flat from welding.
This is purely cosmetic and won't be a problem other than looks.
Here you can see how the table is higher than the switch now and is a
much needed fix. This is how the sander should have come from the
factory because it functions really good now. I'm happy with the results
and it has worked great so far.
