33 Coupe Having Fun 12       8/05/11

One of the shows I like to attend during the summer is held in Oak Glen, Ca. at a place called Law's Coffee Shop. There are a couple of reasons for this and the first being, it's up in the mountains. With an elevation around the 5000 foot level, that makes it about 10 to 15 degrees cooler than where most other shows are held. Another reason is that I happen to really like the mountains with all the trees, clean air, blue skies along with all the wildlife.

The Oak Glen Car Show took place on July 23rd and ran from 7am to 3pm. Last year we left town about 6:00 thinking it was early enough but it really wasn't so this year we got rolling at 5:30 which meant we had better parking this time, so it was worth getting up early for.

This was taken in my driveway at about 5:20 am. while I was waiting for Larry to arrive.

To give you a little history about the Oak Glen area, it's a small community off the beaten path surrounded by oak and pine trees along with fruit orchards around almost every corner. With so many places selling fruit, but mainly apples, the area is famous for their fresh made apple pies and breads. You have your choice of over a dozen type of apples that come by the bag full or you can hand pick them if you'd like. Let me put it this way, if I could live there I would in a heartbeat because it's beautiful up there.

Your entry got you a T-shirt, goodie bag and a dash plaque with the proceeds going to the Yucaipa Rotary Club. You also received a discount coupon to Law's Coffee Shop which was serving an awesome buffet style breakfast or you could use it for lunch if you waited till noon to eat. The show had a big raffle drawing and Vic Slick from 99.9 KOLA radio was the DJ playing older Rock & Roll all day.

The weather that morning was nice and crisp once we arrived with temps in the mid 50's but later in the day it climbed in the mid 80's which was perfect. They had a pretty good turnout with about 90 vehicles that day but they also had a few more vendors taking up potential car show spots so I guess it was a trade off.

If you see some pictures that don't have enough light or to many shadows, it's because of all the trees blocking out the sun so beware. Without anymore yacking, get ready to see just south of one hundred pictures that were taken at the Law's car show.

If you look close you can see a line of people waiting for breakfast. We waited and had lunch at noon.

This funny car belongs to a friend of mine that runs in the NHRA nostalgia drag racing series. It's a blown injected big block Chevy that gets fed a steady diet of alcohol which helps it run in the high 7's at the strip. If you want to hear it run, download here.

This car also belongs to the guy above which has a big block Chrysler in it.

You might have seen the owner of this car on a TV show called 'American Hot Rod' featuring the late Boyd Coddington (which passed away in February of 2008) along with his crew that built high end hot rods. This particular car belongs to Mike Curtis, which was one of the guys that worked for Boyd back then but now has his own business called Curtis Speed. Mike is a really nice guy and talked with us for a few minutes that day.

Mike is an old school kind of guy as you can see by the flathead that's in his car.
